Just starting things off

Hello!  My name is Christian, and yes, I am a Christian (pun VERY MUCH intended in the title).  I’ve just joined a club of billions of people today, called the “I’m-going-to-publically-post-things-that-I-say,-feel,-think,-do,-and-learn-for-the-whole-world-to-see Club” that I’m sure that you have already been a part of since your Mom said it was alright for you to have a Facebook.  Actually, if those people are included, I guess I’ve been kind of part of this club since freshman year of high school and that you’ve been in it ever since you got a Myspace without your Mom actually knowing about it.  So why in the world, Christian, do you feel the need to now start a blog and just blabber about a hundred times more words than you already do in your online media?

Let’s analyze the title here, A Christian’s Life.  Ha!  Very punny, Christian!  So, what, are you going to join the number of COUNTLESS Christian blogs out there in the web and just add one more little voice among the bazillions of voices that are mostly more important or influential than your own?  And are you seriously going to be just like one of those typical Mormons like so many of the ones in your church that go on and on about how great life is and show us pictures of your family while trying to get me to hop on some bandwagon of happiness that will make me want to live a life like yours?  Um… well, yeah, I guess.  Does anyone have any objections to that?... NOPE CAN’T HEAR YOU!  All right, moving along then.

It’s true that there are so many greater bloggers out there.  And it’s true that many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do share their personal and spiritual lives via social media these days.  In fact, when I tried to proudly surprise my best friend (who is not a member of my church) by announcing to him that I would soon be starting up a blog, he simply responded, “Well, I don’t know why you didn’t do that before!  It’s such a popular thing for you Mormon people!”  Funny how we can fit right into our stereotypes, right?  However, I want to make it clear.  The purpose of this blog is NOT to try to have my voice penetrate some great number of people and create tons of friends and enemies (although, that can be inevitable in some cases).  In fact, if I was aiming to become more popular from this, I’d probably write about something more kid-friendly like Healthcare, gun rights, the death penalty, or any other of those easily solvable political issues.  The purposes of this blog are to 1. make few people smile and 2. to touch the lives of a few important people.  I may not even know who you all are, but if you just trust me, I promise that I will be as supportive as humanly possible.

So, who is this Christian guy anyway and why should I take the time to read about him and his life anyway?

That’s a very good question.  I will tell you a little about myself while giving some of the top reasons that I believe that this blog and the future blogs that I post will be worth your time:

1.     I’m not ugly.  You heard me right; one of the top reasons that you should read this is the fact that I’m not ugly.  Well, not THAT ugly I guess.  Maybe for some of you ladies out there, I should actually put “I’m not ugly AND I’m single…”  Wow, you sure can’t find a more appealing case than that!  If you want my number, you’ll have to get it personally.  Actually, this is my number one reason, because I know how poor our reading skills (especially for we Americans) have gotten these days, and I seriously doubt there will be many that will put up that much effort to read this many words.  Hence, I will let you know that I am NOT UGLY so that you WILL put enough effort to look at the pretty pictures that come with the blog!  Hopefully that will be good enough to at least keep you on this page for a few seconds.  You college students, when was the last time you actually opened the book for your American History class to read it by yourself?  Yep, that’s what I thought!  You can just skip the words and look at the pretty pictures of this blog if you want to, just like some of us do with literature.  Hopefully, my beautiful family and my “not ugly” looks will be enough for you to actually start reading the words to this thing though.

2.      I’m not your average Latter-day Saint.  Why not?  Aren’t you contradicting yourself by actually being a typical Latter-day Saint by writing this blog?  Well, first of all, I’m not your average Mormon because I’m from Texas, not Utah (no offense to this beautiful place where I am currently living).  Second of all, actually, YES I am your typical Latter-day Saint in most ways.  For those of you who do not know what a “Peter Priesthood” or a “Molly Mormon” is, go and look them up in your closest Mormon dictionary.  If there’s a picture of me with a dorky smile next to the definition, then I wouldn’t be TOO surprised, and actually, I’d be quite proud.  But, honestly, there is no such thing as an “average” Latter-day Saint.  They are all very unique and most are quite EXCEPTIONAL people.  “Average” would do none of the members any justice in their description.  I go to Brigham Young University, a private school of 32,000 students that are mostly LDS, and I cannot begin to tell you how interesting it is to see the differences between all of these people that share the same faith.  You want to find an interesting sort of people?  Come up to Provo, Utah at BYU.  You would love it.  You want to read an interesting blog?  Read this one.  You will love it.

3.     I’m an all-around kind of guy.  There’s SOMETHING that we share in common.  SOMETHING.  I haven’t found a single person that I don’t share at least one common thing with.  I always try to be friends with everyone, and one of the main things that has helped me to be somewhat successful is that I have so many interests.  For example, I’m a man, and I love sports AND theatre.  What??  That only happens with the guys in High School Musical!!!
Well, guess what, I AM High School Musical.  That is my life in action (except for getting the pretty girl in the end. Sadly, I haven’t been able to accomplish that part.)  I also love country music, alternative, and even very select rap, emo, and heavy metal songs.  I love animals and I love people.  I love to party and I love to have deep spiritual conversations about life.  I could go on and on.  The fact is that if you and me aren’t friends, we should be.  We share something too!  Don't be a stranger, and hopefully, I can be a good “friend” by posting this blog every once in awhile.

4.     You will get as much out of this as you put into it.  I’m a man of my word, and I promise that if you read this blog, you will receive a good level of entertainment, uplifting encouragement, and (hopefully) some spiritual nourishment.  Let’s face it; I’m no Prophet (thank goodness for all of you, right?).  I’m in no position to command ANYONE what to do in their life except for myself and my dog, Bevo.  I am currently entitled to no such position that lets me tell anyone what to do, as any parent or called servant of God could.  However, on June 13, 2013 I did finish serving for 2 years in Mexico City, as a representative of Jesus Christ, or a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  And between what I learned during that unforgettable experience and what I learn every day in each of my daily scripture studies, I believe that I have something of great worth to share with all.  My personal stories and experiences may or may not apply to you, but what DOES apply to you no matter what, whether you are a member or non-member of my church, a close friend or a stranger, a man or a woman, etc., are the truths that I will express that come from the principles of God’s Gospel.  I have a personal unbreakable testimony that He lives.  I know that he intimately knows each one of us and cares for us personally.  And most of all, I know that He loves you and will always try to guide you no matter what you do.  I will simply try to emulate His message as well as I can so that you can make the personal changes in your OWN life that will bring you more joy.  You will get as much out of these simple truths as the effort that you put into trying to understand them.  Don’t read this blog, and it won’t help you in any way at all.  Read this blog; analyze the spiritual content of it; try to understand what is applicable to your personal life through pondering and prayer, and the mists of darkness that make this life so difficult will clear up.  I promise this as your friend.  I sure could use some help in my own life too, that's for sure!  We'll grow and learn together.

So, I hope that I’ve made this relatively interesting and that I haven’t destroyed the little motivation that existed before to continue reading this before I gave my reasons.  BUT just because of reason #1, I KNOW that you haven’t been able to take your eyes off the page!  OR that's what drove you to abandon this page immediately...

Give me feedback on all of your thoughts, feelings, impressions, thanks, or criticisms on anything I write whether it’s just a sentence, a paragraph, or an epistle.  I’m open to just about anything, so even if you tell me that I actually am pretty ugly, then I’ll even take that constructive criticism with gratitude and thanksgiving.  Also, if you have any questions about me, the college life, sports, theatre, Greek philosophy, my attractive roommates, etc. or if you have a request for me to touch a certain subject, let me know.

If you like this blog (or not), I highly recommend you go read “The Fox Tales” a blog that my gorgeous older sister writes.  She’s a young wife and mom with the cutest little one-year old that you’ve ever seen (more pretty pictures!!).  She’s also much more witty and eloquent than I am so that she’ll keep you intrigued from start to finish.

That's all for now, but we're just starting things off!  Until next time!

Christian Hutchinson
